AfterGarage Door Before & After in Carlsbad, CA

Recent Transformations
Rotten Bottom Panel Replacement, La Costa
The homeowner called us after noticing the bottom right corner of their door had gone soft and was letting in drafts. This is common in La Costa, where the marine layer sits heavy against south-facing garage doors and the lower panels take the brunt of it. We sourced a matching Clopay steel section, swapped the damaged panel, and sealed the threshold with a new vinyl astragal. The door closes flat now, and the interior stays dry.
Broken Spring Conversion, Calavera Hills
This door was still running on the original extension springs from the early 2000s build. One snapped at 6:30 on a Tuesday morning, leaving the door dead-weight and the car trapped inside. Extension springs are under extreme tension and store energy in stretched coils. We don’t recommend homeowners handle them. We removed the pair, installed a torsion spring system over the header, and balanced the door to 8-10 pounds of lift pressure. It’s a safer setup, and the homeowner won’t deal with this again.
Opener Upgrade with Smart Connectivity, Bressi Ranch
The old Craftsman chain-drive was waking the baby. The rail shook against the header bracket every time it cycled, and the safety sensors had been knocked out of alignment so many times they were held on with zip ties. We installed a LiftMaster belt-drive opener with built-in WiFi and battery backup. The motor unit runs quiet enough that they can open it during nap time without a sound, and they get phone alerts if the door’s left open when they’re out at the Carlsbad Premium Outlets.
Full Door Replacement, The Village
A delivery truck backed into this door in the narrow driveway off State Street. The aluminum panels were creased beyond repair, and the door had zero insulation to begin with. We measured the opening, helped the homeowner select an Amarr carriage house design with 2-inch polyurethane insulation, and installed it with new track, springs, and hardware. The R-value cut the garage temperature swing by about 15 degrees, which matters in The Village where garages often double as workshops and storage for beach gear.
Emergency Cable Rewind, Aviara
The door went up crooked and jammed three feet off the ground. One cable had slipped the drum and the other was frayed down to half its strands. This happens when a spring weakens unevenly and one side of the door carries more load. We replaced both cables with new 7×19 galvanized aircraft cable, reset the drums, and retensioned the torsion spring. We also caught that the bearing plate was wallowing out, so we swapped it before it failed. The door tracks straight now.
Weather Seal and Tune-Up, Rancho Carlsbad
The homeowner thought they needed a new door. What they actually needed was a proper seal and adjustment. The old bottom seal had hardened and shrunk, leaving a half-inch gap that let in dust, seed bugs, and the occasional mouse from the canyon behind the property. The side and top seals were original and crumbling. We installed a new flexible vinyl bottom seal, replaced the jamb seals, lubricated the rollers and hinges, and adjusted the opener force settings. Door’s quiet, tight, and the garage smells like a garage again instead of the outdoors.
